Becoming a volunteer at the ACCAC
We have several needs for volunteers, and are flexible in the hours and schedule of work for volunteers. We welcome people who can commit to certain hours each week, and we also welcome people who can be available on an as needed basis (once they are fully oriented to the agency.)
All volunteers must complete an application and have a criminal background check. We are not able at this time to compensate potential volunteers for the cost of background checks.

Volunteer Job Descriptions
General Office Help
This volunteer position includes some of the tasks listed below, not necessarily all tasks are needed at all times, and some items like cleaning will not be required ifa volunteer is not willing to do it.
Duties:
Answer phones, enter information in the computer (several databases), gather recycling and trash, clean (vacuum, disinfect surfaces, etc.), prepare parent information packets, create a scrapbook of photos and press releases, check supplies for office and medical examination room, inventory supplies.
Client/family Interaction
This volunteer position involves being at our office when a child is to be interviewed regarding possible sexual abuse. Only one family is ever interviewed at a time.
Duties:
The volunteer will stay with the child and family in the waiting room, providing a calm, respectful presence to help the child and family feel welcome and as much at ease as possible. This role may involve engaging the child(ren) in the waiting room with the toys, games and videos we have provided. At times, the adult with the child will need to be interviewed and the volunteer will stay with the remaining family members to offer supervision of the child(ren).
Community Education and Prevention
This volunteer position will assist the Director and other ACCAC members in providing trainings and workshops in the Athens community to prevent child abuse.
Duties:
Help inform the public about our services and prevention program, (such as press releases and posters) prepare materials for trainings, set up beforehand, aid in the presentations, return materials to ACCAC office. Help design and implement a community evaluation of needed services to respond to child abuse.
Fund raising
This position will assist the Director in creating fund raising activities and events. The volunteer may also be involved with the preparation of events and during events.
Duties:
The volunteer will help create new fund raising activities with the Director and board members. They will help with our annual fund raiser- “Movin’ & Groovin” each Spring. This may include asking for and gathering donations of silent auction items from community members, preparing media announcements and other promotional material, and helping at the event itself.
